The stomach is the principal organ of digestion, hence the importance of knowing a little more and give it due consideration. Like the other organs of the body, is susceptible to various diseases and suffering. For this reason, it is important to take good care of this body with a healthy lifestyle, avoiding large meals and greasy, and eating slowly and calmly. The stomach serves three main functions for digestion: get food from the mouth and esophagus, the food mixes with stomach acid and the resulting mixture is led into the small intestine.

Although most symptoms are not related to any organic disorder and therefore diseases or conditions are mild, such as ulcer and gastritis, stomach, may also suffer more serious illnesses, such as bleeding or perforated ulcers and cancer that may endanger the life of the sufferer. Hence there is need to consult a doctor if any of the following symptoms:

* Severe abdominal pain

* Blood in stool

* Unintentional weight loss

* Vomiting and / or persistent diarrhea

* Heartburn not relieved by taking antacids yet

Any of these symptoms, alone or in company with another, may be the first sign that exists or is developing a disease in the stomach. Let us see what are the most common diseases affecting this organ in the upper right quadrant of the abdomen, and is divided into fundus, body, antrum and pylorus.

- Gastritis is an inflammation of the lining of the stomach (gastric mucosa). It may be acute or chronic and affect some or all gastric area. The main root causes are poor eating habits, stress, Helicobacter pylori infection or overuse of painkillers.

- Indigestion: Also known as dyspepsia, is rather a symptom of trouble in the upper gastrointestinal tract (esophagus, stomach, duodenum, gallbladder and pancreas). When present, the person may feel a sense of malaise throughout the abdomen after eating or drinking, bloating, heartburn, nausea and pain.

- Peptic ulcer: is one that affects the lining of the stomach or duodenum. Those that occur in the stomach are known as gastric ulcers. It is a fairly common disease that affects 10% of people at some point in their lives. The origin of the ulcer is an imbalance between aggressive and defensive factors of the gastrointestinal mucosa. Among the aggressive agents are the bacterium Helicobacter pylori, treatment with drugs like aspirin and ibuprofen and gastric acid secretion by parietal cells.

- Hemorrhage: results from the erosion caused by gastric juices inside an ulcer, and can affect an artery wall breaking your bleeding originates.

- Stomach cancer: frequency is much higher in men than women and often is caused by ulceration of the lining of the stomach wall. Some factors that may favor its appearance is the excessive salt intake, low fruit and vegetable intake and smoking. Again, infection with the bacterium Helicobacter pylori has become the most important risk factor in four out of five cases of this cancer.

Gastritis is an inflammation of the lining of the stomach produced by different causes. Gastritis is an irritation of the lining of the stomach from excess acid secretion, either you’ve eaten something heavy, or by taking anti-inflammatory drugs or a large percentage of cases there is an infection with Helicobacter pylori.

Foods Allowed

MEAT: beef, veal (cooked, roasted or baked without fat), chicken (baked or broiled) skinless, cooked ham.
FISH, natural seafood.
Fruits: apples, pears baked or mashed potatoes. Avoid citrus fruits (oranges).
Soups: vegetable, meat, white rice, all with little salt.
EGGS: any form without oil.
PAN: white or brown.
VEGETABLES: all cooked without oil.
Liquids: water, chamomile, etc …
DAIRY: Yogurt, cheese.
